Becca!

You love tabletop?

I love tabletop!

You love actual plays?

I love actual plays!

You're creating an incredible mini-series called Good Time on the Clocktower!

I'm... creating an incredible musical score for your mini-series called Good Time on the Clocktower?!

Well, I hope at least! I know how vital music is to telling the story you want to be heard - and the best way to do that is with a custom musical score. I want to make that happen for you!

I loved the first two episodes of Good Time on the Clocktower - you guys clearly have a command of the medium. And you said it yourself Becca - these were a proof of concept!

But the lack of music in the key moments of these shows didn't sell the clever gameplay of your characters, or the spooky, over-the-top mood you were trying to set.

I'd like to help make that happen in the full series, and if you could spare a moment of your time, I'll make the case for how we can make something special together!

But who am i?

I'm Noah!

I'm a Music Composer and Producer in Cleveland, OH, and I love working on films & games. For an extensive list of my attributes and accolades, feel free to poke around my website!

My Approach

I think of myself like a musical swiss army knife - a little classical piano, a little rock guitar, a little jazz bass, and a bunch of crazy different experiences in music means I can pretty much make anything/everything with enough heads up! I get most excited when I'm marrying my different stylings into something totally unique.

I also run a small orchestral scoring company - North Coast Scoring, and we utilize the relatively low cost of operations in Cleveland to get beautiful, real performers on all of our scores. I'd be thrilled to utilize North Coast for your project to keep the quality of your show as high as it can be!

What I'm Offering

I'm signing up to compose a fully original score for your Kickstarter Campaign series, if you're interested! I don't expect that you'll need a full two hours of brand new music for each episode, but there'll probably be at least an hour of original music I'd create for your project, with lots of small additions/changes depending on the usage from episode to episode.

Here are some aspects of that music I'd like to hone in on:

Creating Atmosphere

Not every moment needs a catchy melody or a dramatic swell - some of the most important work music does is set the tone between the big moments. It will also help set the aesthetic of your production more intentionally - a classically gothic horror score will lean into the over-the-top fun of the show.

Though the instruments involved in your series would be different, the kind of energy and tension of this track of mine is a good example of setting the mood without taking attention away from the rest of the content.

Setting a Winning Pace

With long-form content like this series, keeping the energy up across nearly 2 hours of content can be daunting. Something I've found that helps viewers maintain a sense of momentum is strong segments like the ones you've already incorporated into your first two episodes!

To add to this effect, I'd love to extend each "Night" music cue a little, playing under your narration of the activities from the players that night. In addition, I think it might help add to the intensity of the late game by turning up the spookiness-dial a little more each night, so by the final night we have a fully-horrific version of our "next night" music cue.

Below is an interesting, pace-setting piece I composed for a short film with a strong theme that could be manipulated in such a way.

Creating Familiarity with Themes

Because this miniseries will feature several recurring roles and events, we should craft specific motifs for these aspects of the game. That way, viewers can feel each episode is connected, even though each game will play out differently.

For instance, each time the IMP role is revealed, or makes a meaningful move during the game, we can build familiarity with the actions of past imps and the game at large by playing a recurring theme that can build over time, and shift to fit the mood of the scene. Below is a track that I could see being used to build up the impact of a big moment - like when Xander decided to kill himself as the imp during episode 1!

A Couple More Quick Examples

To see a couple moments in action, I thought I'd share a couple points where I think thoughtful music would help set the table for the excellent storytelling and performances on this show. First, the very dramatic "Trouble Brewing" beat at the beginning of the episode, followed by the moment where Vic confirms that Brennan is "a bad guy".

Lets connect!

I hope we can work together to make Good Time on the Clocktower the best that it can be!

Congratulations on a very successful Kickstarter campaign Becca, I wish you all the best - and I hope you'll reach out to see if we can make this thing happen! Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have further questions or comments, I'd love to speak further! You can reach me at noahfoutz@gmail.com , or via the contact form on my website.

Thank you for your time!
